There's no step-by-step guide for Open WebUI here yet. Everything below comes straight from the app catalogue, so it's what LibrePortal really does when you install it. For using Open WebUI itself, its own documentation is the place to go: github.com/open-webui/open-webui.
Addresses and ports#
Open WebUI has one port. LibrePortal picks a free port number for each when you install, so yours will differ from anyone else's. The Config tab's Network section shows them, and the app's Open button uses the right one. "Anyone" means it's reachable from wherever your server is reachable; you can make it private later.
| What it is | Who can reach it | With a domain |
|---|---|---|
| Web Interface | Anyone | chat.your-domain |

Works with#
These are the other apps Open WebUI knows how to work with. Once it's installed, its page shows the same list with whether each one is connected. How this works.
- AI models: Chats with the models downloaded to Ollama. LibrePortal sets this up by itself when both are installed.
- Grafana: Shows dashboards for the apps that have one. works with every app
- Prometheus: Collects metrics from the apps that can export them. works with every app
- Uptime Kuma: Watches your apps and shows when one goes down. works with every app
Privacy and security#
All clear Open WebUI has analytics, its update check and community sharing switched off by LibrePortal, and may still download an embedding model from Hugging Face. Its licence is source-available, not a standard open-source one.
What leaves this server#
- An embedding model is downloaded from Hugging Face the first time documents are used
What LibrePortal turns off#
- Detailed logs and per-request access logging (switchable in Config)
- Anonymous telemetry and Scarf analytics
- Update check against GitHub (switchable in Config)
- Sharing to openwebui.com (switchable in Config)
Licence: Open WebUI License (BSD-3-Clause plus branding-preservation clause) - source-available, not OSI open source. Audited: 21 October 2026. See the privacy of every app and the Promise.
