IT-Tools

Developer Utilities

IT-Tools is a toolbox of small everyday helpers for anyone who works with computers, from password and UUID generators to converters, formatters and decoders. Everything runs in your browser, so what you paste in stays on your device.

What it's good for#

It's the bookmark you'd otherwise keep a dozen random websites for. Need a strong random token, a hash of a file, a timestamp turned into a date, a JWT pulled apart to see what's inside, some JSON tidied up, a QR code for your Wi-Fi, or a subnet worked out? It's all in one page, with a search box at the top.

The reason to run your own copy is what you paste into it. Online tools like these see everything you give them, and people paste in tokens, keys and bits of config without thinking. IT-Tools does its work in your browser, and on your own server even the page itself comes from you.

Signing in#

There's nothing to sign in to. IT-Tools has no accounts and stores nothing on the server; it's a set of web pages that do their sums in your browser. Anyone who can reach it can use it, which does no harm, but if it's just for you, make it Private on its Config tab under Network (see Who can reach what).

How to use it#

Open it with the Web Interface button, type what you're after in the search box, and pick the tool. Mark the ones you use most as favourites and they stay at the top of the home page. Favourites are kept in your browser, so each device has its own.

Good to know#

  • Nothing to back up. The server holds nothing, so LibrePortal leaves IT-Tools out of backups.
  • Updates are automatic. LibrePortal follows IT-Tools' latest release; with nothing stored, an update can't lose anything.
  • You can run several copies if you ever want to, though one is plenty for most. See More than one copy of an app.

Addresses and ports#

IT-Tools has one port. LibrePortal picks a free port number for each when you install, so yours will differ from anyone else's. The Config tab's Network section shows them, and the app's Open button uses the right one. "Anyone" means it's reachable from wherever your server is reachable; you can make it private later.

Settings#

In its config file#

IT-Tools's own settings aren't on the Config tab yet. They live in the app's config file, described here so you know they exist. How to change them.

Works with#

These are the other apps IT-Tools knows how to work with. Once it's installed, its page shows the same list with whether each one is connected. How this works.

  • Grafana: Shows dashboards for the apps that have one. works with every app
  • Prometheus: Collects metrics from the apps that can export them. works with every app
  • Uptime Kuma: Watches your apps and shows when one goes down. works with every app

Privacy and security#

All clear IT-Tools is a set of small helper tools that run in your browser and send nothing anywhere.

What leaves this server#

  • A few individual tools fetch from other sites by their nature, such as ones that look up addresses

What LibrePortal turns off#

Nothing needed switching off.

Licence: GPL-3.0. Audited: 21 October 2026. See the privacy of every app and the Promise.
